An airline startup is, once again, pushing for a new nonstop service out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
A press release from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Office states that business-focused OneJet is planning nonstop service between Buffalo and RDU. A OneJet spokeswoman confirmed the news, though she cautioned in an email that the plans haven't been formally finalized.
"Flight options in the area are under strong consideration, but no service announcement has been finalized yet," stated OneJet spokeswoman Kelsey Thompson. "We can confirm the route, but further details on flight schedule and formal launch date will be announced in January."
Raleigh-Durham International Airport spokesman Andrew Sawyer said RDU hadn’t “heard anything official” from OneJet, and referred Triangle Business Journal to the carrier for more information.
“Buffalo is one of our top 10 domestic markets … and we would love for an airline to launch service there,” he stated in an email.
According to an airport report released last week, Buffalo ranks seventh on RDU’s unserved domestic markets list, with nearly 61 passengers traveling between the two metros every day – even without a nonstop flight.
